The Congregate Meals Program available at the neighborhood seniors centers in South Fulton County provides a hot, nutritionally balanced noon-day meal five days a week. Transportation to and from the senior center is available, coordinated by the Senior Center Manager of the location nearest your home.
Congregate meals are primarily for the fairly mobile senior population. In order to qualify for this program, individuals must be sixty years or older, or be the spouse of an eligible person.
Both Congregate Meal Sites and Delivery Meal locations are dependent upon finances and volunteers. Therefore, each meal location has its own schedule of services, and you must contact them directly to get on their list and determine what services are available.
A congregate meal site is a central facility where people meet to have a meal and socialize. This is a great opportunity for seniors to get out of the house, get a good meal, and make new friends.
There may or may not be transportation provided to this location and this is going to depend on the resources and practices of the organization. Even if there isn’t such transportation available, most locations have public transportation that runs close by.
